Tornado Outbreak's gameplay is divided up into three separate parts. Exploration and Destruction, Vortex Races, and lastly, Totem Battles.

UI Hud

Category Level

Appearing at the top left of the screen, this indicates the player's tornado size along with a meter that gradually fills up as players destroy more objects in the area. When the meter is filled up all the way, the tornado increases by one size.

Score

Underneath the Category Level. It keeps track of the player's score determined by the amount of Fire Flyers collected.

Fire Flyer Counter

Holding down the grab button will reveal you the goal along with the total amount of Fire Flyers hiding within the area. A standard level consists of 100 Fire Flyer, but the minimum amount required to be collected is 50.

Exploration and Destruction

Start off as a small tornado and gradually grow in size. Stay within the shaded area generated by the L.O.A.D. STARR, a machine that is used to create cloud cover. If Zephyr’s tornado comes in contact with the sunlight, its harmful UV-rays will temporarily dissipate the twister!

The goal is to collect Fire Flyers, indicated by the sparks and smoke coming out of an object.

Vortex Races

Race through a series of Storm Gates with a Wind Warrior companion to build the perfect storm. The race starts off slow but gradually gets faster upon the completion of a single lap. In later levels of the game, the Fire Flyers sometimes sneak into one of the Storm Gates. Use the grab button to pull them out of the tainted gate. If you fail and run through one of the gates, it will explode and slow you down.

Totem Battles

Guide Zephyr’s tornado through a maze of moving clouds as you dodge patches of sun-spots. As you get closer, Zephyr will eventually approach the Totem, a tall structure that is required to be destroyed to complete the level. The level ends when all Totems are successfully destroyed.
