Stage 01 - Moonlight Temptation[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

Boss Fight: Glutton Train[edit]

The Glutton Train has 120 HP. His weak spot is his golden mask. He will grab a mound of coal and drag it toward him. Jump on top of the coal and attack his mask, being careful not to get dragged into him. If you're fast, you can hit him 8 times per mound of coal without getting hit.

After he fully drags in the coal, run away to the left. If you're too close to him at this point, he will shoot a fireball out of his engine, which is very fast. You can jump over it, but it's tricky. Either way he will then use his next move, which is to shoot fireballs up which will then fall on top of you. Simply stay put and if a fireball looks like it will fall on you, move out of the way. Then he will grab the next mound of coal and the process repeats.

I recommend using the whip for this fight, as the upwards angle makes it possible to attack the mask without using the mound of coal. You can also use the oni mask to increase your damage and expedite the process a little.

Every boss in the game has a desperation move right before they die. Usually these moves can not kill you, but if you dodge them you get an extra life. For this boss, he drags a mound of coal halfway across the screen before firing a huge laser. Quickly get to the left of the coal and it will block the laser.

NIGHTMARE MODE

He's slightly harder on nightmare mode - he now has 160 HP over 120, and the fireballs that fly in from the top now stick to the ground. You'll have to attack the fires to put them out, otherwise you'll quickly run out of space to stand. These changes also apply to ultimate mode.

Miriam[edit]

Miriam

After defeating the Glutton Train, you will encounter Miriam. You have three options - you can talk to her and have her join the party, you can kill her and gain a special ability, or keep walking and ignore her entirely. For more information on playing as Miriam, see the characters section. If you choose to kill her, Zangetsu gains the crescent moon ability, which improves his jumping slash.

Your choice here will contribute to which ending you get. If you want the true ending and nightmare mode, you should ally with every character. For specifics on endings, check the endings section (contains spoilers).
