Once you have inserted your coin into the cabinet of Namco-America's 1995 racing arcade game, Speed Racer, it will proceed to the character selection screen shown above as the text "SELECT A CAR." is displayed; you shall then have eleven seconds to select one of the five cars by turning the steering wheel left or right, then stepping on the gas pedal (which is the only one the game has) to confirm your choice. Once you have done so, your chosen car shall be displayed on a TRON-like backdrop of its blueprints as it revolves in a clockwise direction (its name will also be shown above it, with its primary, secondary and tertiary weapons below it) - and the text "ALPINE RACE", "DESERT RACE" or "FIRE RACE" will then be displayed on the screen (unlike in any of the earlier racing games by Namco's Japanese division that have multiple tracks, the one that you will be playing is randomly selected, like the Japan League's stadiums when the first player selected one of their teams in 1990's Kyūkai Dōchūki). This guide is going to cover the Alpine Race first.
