User talk:Phoenix499

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

I'm not really sure what this page is for, is it a profile?

Welcome to StrategyWiki Phoenix499. Your user talk page is where other people from the site can communicate and collaborate with you on projects that you are working on. Ordinarilly, I would never do this, but I took the liberty of moving your introduction to your actual user page. That page is for letting people know about yourself and what projects you are working on. Have fun. Procyon 16:04, 22 September 2006 (CDT)

Oh cheers, thanks. I've noticed that there aren't many handheld guides, mostly GBA and DS, so I'm working on them. I did a little on Golden Sun, then I've done ALOT on Project Rub (Feel the Magic) and Tony Hawks: American Sk8land. I've also got a few PSP owning friends, and seeing as you've only got 4 PSP guides, I'll try and persuade them to contribute something! I presume your a Moderator like Garrett? Or are you just being nice for no reason! Thanks again. Phoenix499 15:01, 23 September 2006 (CDT)

Isn't being nice a reason by itself :P? There's a list of admins which you can look at. Also, to get your signature at the end, use ~~~~. -- Prod 14:52, 23 September 2006 (CDT)

Sub-paging[edit]

When creating new pages for guides, could you please make sure they're in a sub-page of the guide itself (e.g. "Equipment" is a sub-page of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)? One thing important to doing this is making sure that any links you create to non-existant pages point to their proper sub-paged location. Additionally, could you only use the "num" parameter of {{Header Nav}} on the main page of a guide? It's intended to show guide completion, not page completion. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 07:26, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Okay, sorry.

Header Nav[edit]

Good job on the sub-paging of Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, but could you put an {{Header Nav}} at the top of each sub-page please? Just put the following at the top: {{Header Nav|game=Tony Hawk's American Sk8land}} Thanks. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 11:34, 5 November 2006 (CST)

Ack yeh, I forgot. Sorry. I see your doing Trauma Center, good game from what I've heard!

Would you believe it, but all I have is a computer, and I don't play that many games. :-P I'm here to clean up the mess everybody else makes, and slowly make progress on my Counter-Strike: Source guide. ;-) --DrBob (Talk) 11:56, 5 November 2006 (CST)
Lol, well I'm packing in for the night now. I'll do some more next weekend. I'm minaly a DS gamer, so if theres any guides that really need a clean up, I could help. Although I might not have the game. Phoenix499 12:02, 5 November 2006 (CST)
Take your pick. :-P --DrBob (Talk) 12:34, 5 November 2006 (CST)

When putting the Header Nav's, here are a few special cases to be aware of.

  1. When putting the AGN on Table of Contents pages, use the code
    <noinclude>{{Header Nav|game=****}}</noinclude>
This way the AGN isn't shown inside the AGN on other pages.
  2. Only use num=x on the main page.
  3. Not really about AGN's and I think you've figured this out already. But on the Table of Contents page, never use the [['''/'''Somepage'''/''']] method of page linking. Always put the full link name [[Someguide/somepage|somepage]] -- Prod (Talk) 11:56, 13 November 2006 (CST)

Tony Hawk skaters[edit]

I'm just curious about how much more info you will be adding to each skaters page. If it isn't going to be much (just an image and short info) then it might be better to just put everything on one page (like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney/Characters. Otherwise, you might want to use subpages, ie. move the pages to Tony Hawk's American Sk8land/Skaters/Tony Hawk (with the /Skaters/). -- Prod (Talk) 12:04, 6 November 2006 (CST)

Oh, well each skater has stats you see. So its only about about 7 or eight lines. Actually, your way does sound alot better. I'll try that. Phoenix499 12:05, 6 November 2006 (CST)
I've set it up to have all of them on the same page (it's kinda messy). This is just for you to see what it will (kinda) look like. What do you think? -- Prod (Talk) 12:11, 6 November 2006 (CST)

Well I'm doing it right now. Wait a sec and I'll show you. Nearly there! Phoenix499 12:12, 6 November 2006 (CST)

As you've copied all the info off of them, I've deleted the old skater pages. -- Prod (Talk) 13:09, 6 November 2006 (CST)

Table of Contents[edit]

About the Main page link, I saw DrBob putting them on ToC's so I followed suit. If you think they are unnecessary, discuss it with him. My understanding is that it's really just for completion cause the ToC is supposed to have links to every page. -- Prod (Talk) 12:02, 13 November 2006 (CST)

Discuss the main page link with DrBob. Removing the ToC's from the main pages is a bit more major of a change and should be brought up on StrategyWiki:Community Issues. Also I would suggest you read through the archives (linked on that page) to get some background information since this has been somewhat discussed before. -- Prod (Talk) 12:09, 13 November 2006 (CST)
DrBob replied here. Also, I'm not the most artistic person around (and I'm a novice HTMLer), so I can only do so much when it comes to layout. Someone else can make it look nice, I just make sure the info is accessible. -- Prod (Talk) 13:04, 13 November 2006 (CST)

Copy pasting[edit]

Unless you are splitting a page into many pages, do 'not copy and paste text. It gets confusing keeping track of all the pages and you lose history. If the name of a page is wrong, use the "Move" button at the top of the page to move it to a new page name (move and rename are the same thing in the computer world). -- Prod (Talk) 12:16, 13 November 2006 (CST)
