"Octopods at Rest Tend to FLIP OUT!" is the second level in Alterna, it introduces Octopods and teaches the player how to defeat them.

How To Access[edit]

Upon exiting "Get to Know Alterna, You're Only Choice" the kettle is slightly to the right of the fuzzy ooze, right on top of the black rock.

Weapon Choices[edit]

There are three wepon choices: the regular Hero Gear, Splat Brella with Splat Bomb, and Heavy Splatling with Burst Bomb. The Hero Gear is definitely the easiest, especially if upgraded, while the Splat Brella can struggle with the Oversized Octopod, and the Heavy Splatling can be difficult to use due to it's long charge time, and you will have to start charging before approaching them. Overall, it is usually best to choose the recommended weapon, being the Hero Gear.

First Checkpoint[edit]

As soon as you enter the level, you are greeted with multiple blocks, and a path leading to an Octopod in front of a stack of boxes. With the Hero Gear, you should either throw Smallfry at the Octopod, or you can simply fire a single shot at it. Afterwards, there is a wide area with five more Octopds circling small blocks. If you are not confident about taking them on, you can use the small trail of ink to sneak past them, or use it to surprise them. After getting past them, there are three more Octopods on top of a slope, which you can shoot to get past.

Second Checkpoint[edit]

After reaching the second checkpoint there is an orange crate on the left which contains a really valuable armor pick-up. To the right there is a pathway that has five Octopods on it. After passing the Octopods there is a corner with two more Octopods in front of some boxes. Splatting the Octopods will probably destroy the boxes, causing the Octopods behind them to most likely notice you. Around the next corner is an 'Oversized Octopod' which must be approached carefully, as it has a very large amount of health. By this point, you most likely have your Splashdown charged, which is an extremely easy way to deal with it. Heading towards the steps and destroying the orange box at the top will give you a key, allowing you to head up the middle path, which has a locked boxed leading to a wall that takes you to the final checkpoint.

Final Checkpoint[edit]

The final checkpoint starts with a path that leads to to a paintable wall that has two Octopods in front of it, which are easy to defeat. Afterwards, there are a couple more Octopods on top of a grate, which can be defeated by luring them down by fireing a couple shots in front of them. After climbing up the wall, there is another Armor-Pickup that will help with the next section. There are twelve Octopods spread across the open area. If using the Heavy Splatling, you should start charging up and start firing as soon as you can. For the other two weapons, you should start shooting as soon as you move around the block. At the far end of the platform there is a Splat Switch that opens a door, and dropping an Oversized Octopod, which can be easily defeat by shooting at while backing a way, or using another Splashdown. Destroying the boxes (If the Octopod's explosion didn't already) reveals a straight path to the goal.
